Jamaica Boys & Girls Champs - Performance Analytics

An Open Data Performance Dashboard for Jamaica's High School Track & Field Athletics

Jamaica's world acclaimed Boys & Girls Championships is the culmination of an intense season of development meets that take place between Jan - March each year. Trackies (Jamaican Track & Field Fanatics) are constantly dissecting, discussing and debating athlete and school performances throughout the season, in an effort to predict the likely winners and break-out performances at the flagship Boys & Girls Championships.

During Open Data day 2015, UWI students facilitated by the Mona School of Business & management used data on athlete performances from Champs 2014 together with data from the various development meets, to create the following track & field performance dashboard that provides performance metrics and visualizations for schools and individual athletes. We expect that this will contribute to the ongoing excitement of Jamaica's premier sport.

We acknowledge the contributions of the JAAA's Garth Gayle and ONdiRUN's Wayne Long in supplying the data from various Track & Field events to support this initiative. For a full report on the activities that took place on Open Data Day 2015 at the Mona School of Business, see http://caribbeanopeninstitute.org/msbm-opendata-day.

Using Champs Review/Preview Analytics

The dashboard displays a bubble chart on the left, where the size of a school's bubble reflects their relative performance at Champs. The table on the right indicates individual event performance by School and Athlete. The filter bar at the top allows the user to zoom in on specific areas of interest such as a particular school of athlete, or a specific type of event. The filter on a school or athlete does partial text search, so just type part of the name in the text box to find the required information.
